The i in online – storyboard and script competition rules
Rule 1
The competition is operated by Speechly Bircham LLP for and on behalf of The i in online project and its consortia members and is open to all schools. Any pupil of a participating school in either year 7 to 13 (secondary school) may enter.
Rule 2
A school may enter more than one entry in respect of any of the five subjects in section 4 below.
Rule 3
The school shall be responsible for ensuring that consent has been obtained from the parent or legal guardian of each pupil that participates in the competition entry or entries including permission for the school and its pupils to appear in any publicity and/or subsequent reuse or public performance of the video/s.
Rule 4
To enter the competition a school must submit a storyboard/script (“script”) of no more than 500 words in length addressing one or more of the following five subjects:
(i) Social networks and privacy
(ii) Cyber-bullying
(iii) Personal safety online
(iv) Misuse of personal information
(v) CCTV and monitoring
Rule 5
The script must be solely the school and pupil’s original work and must not contain any illegal, offensive or defamatory content or any content which infringes the rights of third parties (e.g. copyrighted material) and where necessary the school remains responsible for obtaining all licenses and/or consents in respect of third party material that is used in the submissions. Speechly Bircham LLP reserves the right to edit entries in order to include credits for The i in online project and The i in online trade mark. Winning schools are entitled to be credited in the opening credits of the film.
Rule 6
Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form, which contains the details set out below for the pupil (or for each pupil in the group in the case of a joint entry):
- Name
- Age
- Year
- Address
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Name of School
- Signature of parent/legal guardian
Rule 7
Entries may be submitted in the digital file format .doc, .docx or pdf either:
(i) on a data stick, DVD or CD-Rom which should be posted to:
The i in online c/o Speechly Bircham LLP, 6 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3LX; or
(ii) by email to competition@theiinonline.org
Rule 8
Entries must be received by 12pm GMT on 28 February 2011. Late entries or those that have incomplete or illegible entry forms may be disqualified. Speechly Bircham takes no responsibility for any problem with postal or email services (or otherwise) which may result in an entry being lost or damaged. Proof of posting or sending is not proof of delivery.
Rule 9
The entries will be judged by a panel of judges including representatives from the Information Commissioner’s Office, Speechly Bircham LLP, The Walt Disney Company UK, Sky and Radiowaves using the following criteria: how creative and original is the script? How well does the script address one or more of the subjects set out in point 4 above?
Rule 10
There will be up to three winning entries which will be selected by the judging panel on or after 28 February 2011 and the successful entrants will be notified within 28 days of that date.
Rule 11
The competition prize for the three winning scripts/video ideas will be for the authors of the of winning scripts to work with a professional film production team and realise their short film The actors can be the school children themselves if they wish (provided they have previously obtained parental consent) or professional actors. The videos created will be subsequently posted on the internet and linked on the website of the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. By entering the competition the parent/legal guardian (on behalf of the pupil) and the pupil’s school confirm that they grant their permission to the entry being posted on the website if successful, together with the pupils’ names and the name of the school.
Rule 12
The prizes cannot be transferred and there is no cash alternative. In the event that the winner cannot be contacted (after reasonable attempts have been made) or if there has been any breach of these rules, Speechly Bircham reserves the right to select a runner-up script as the winner, but it is not obliged to do so.
Rule 13
The decision of the judging panel is final. No correspondence will be entered into relating to this competition.
Rule 14
Speechly Bircham reserves the right to cancel the competition or modify these rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise that are outside of its control.
Rule 15
Speechly Bircham and the I in online project members will only use the personal details set out on entry forms for the purposes of administering the competition and for PR purposes, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without permission.
Rule 16
Speechly Bircham as promoter of this competition will hold the copyright in the submitted competition entries.
