SAFE is a new programme of practical, activities to develop primary children’s skills, self-confidence and safety awareness when using social network sites.
SAFE brings together the FREE social network for schools, Radiowaves website, with leading safety organisations Childnet International website and The i in online.
Combining a safe social network, downloadable materials and teacher resources, the programme will enable any primary school to easily deliver fun activities which develop their pupils’ digital literacy skills. By completing the programme pupils gain a SAFE certificate as evidence of their learning.
Social networking and sharing content online is now an integral part of young people’s lives. It provides many opportunities for them to develop creative and communication skills in ways that are relevant to them, in school or at home. However, with these new opportunities come many new choices. How do we help children make positive and informed choices when creating and sharing online? SAFE aims to provide practical activities and a framework to help pupils develop as aware and active digital citizens.
Supporting the national curriculum
All SAFE tasks are linked closely to the English Primary Curriculum. The tasks are supported by teacher packs which include how to guides, discussion topics and learning outcomes.
Radiowaves, the social media network for schools, is providing FREE websites and tools so that all primary schools can easily deliver SAFE activities.
