Developers of apps for kids must keep parents informed of how information will be used, warns FTC
The Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) is a federal agency with jurisdiction over consumer protection and enforcement of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) in the United States. The FTC has recently carried out a survey of hundreds of apps from the Apple App Store and Android Market, focusing on the information made available to parents. The results have been published in a report called ‘Mobile Apps for Kids: Current Privacy Disclosures are Disappointing’.
